I noted that retro is still very popular trend in web design, and my passion for this style is evident. Today I want explain a super-simple way to create a nice retro logo with an appropriate background. The final result, that you can see below, is adaptable for many uses in your web design works. This tutorial aims to improve quality/time ratio, a decent design in few minutes (approximately 10-15 minutes).

To begin with, what sort of photo would make a good grunge brush? Anything really. You can take a shadow or highlight or color selection, separate those elements from the photo and create a brush fairly easily. For this example, I’m going to use the tech pattern image and create my brush. In this photoshop tutorial we are going to create an old and vintage photo.

We know we can always count on the Internet for free quality icons, but that being said, free icons sometimes might have it’s limitation too. Here’s few we can quickly think of:

• Copyright. Most free icons restricts usage on non-commercial product/website only.
• Size. Don’t you just hate it when you found your favorite icon but it’s only a 32×32 and you wish they have a bigger version?
• Colors. You found the exact icon you want, but the color is just not right.
• Transparency. Some author did not distribute their free icon in .PNG or original source. That makes it hard to implement their icons on our design.

Simplicity is probably the main factor determining if a Web 2.0 logo is nice. To contribute to simplicity combination of font colors and style plays a major role.
